    Traditions & lore

What makes Circuit of the Americas feel like more than another race weekend.

    Turn 1

The uphill blind-crest left-hander at the end of the long start-finish straight is the most famous corner on the lap. From the grid, drivers see only sky on the run up; the apex reveals itself at the crest. Heavy braking and a 40-metre elevation change in 600 metres make it a regular site of lap-one incidents.

    A circuit of borrowed corners

Tilke designed COTA with deliberate nods to the great corners of world motorsport: the Esses sequence echoes Silverstone’s Maggotts–Becketts; the long final hairpin recalls Hockenheim; the long left-handed loop is inspired by Istanbul’s Turn 8.
