About Ed
Ed Carpenter is an American racing driver and the eponymous owner of Ed Carpenter Racing. The stepson of former IndyCar team owner Tony George, Carpenter built his identity around oval racing — pole positions at the Indianapolis 500 in 2013 and 2014 anchor a career that has prioritized the season's biggest race above all else.
For most of the past decade, Carpenter has run only the oval rounds of the IndyCar schedule, sharing the #20 entry with whichever road/street driver his team has fielded. He has never won the 500, but he has been on the front row enough times that the trophy still feels reachable. As an owner-driver, his presence on the grid is a meaningful through-line to an earlier era of the sport.
Ed Carpenter currently races for Ed Carpenter Racing in the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES, sitting P30 in the standings with 5 points. Track Ed Carpenter's full season on the Grid Guy interactive standings.
