    Traditions & lore

What makes Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps feel like more than another race weekend.

    Eau Rouge and Raidillon

The downhill-to-uphill left-right-left at the bottom of the start-finish straight is one of F1's most iconic stretches of road. Drivers turn in blind over the crest at over 300 km/h and emerge onto the Kemmel Straight. Eau Rouge is the dip; Raidillon is the climb out.

    F1's longest circuit

At 7.004 km, Spa is the longest circuit on the F1 calendar. The layout is so big that it can rain at one end of the track and be dry at the other — the source of the famous Spa weather lore and many strategy gambles.

    The weather

Spa is hidden in the Ardennes forest at altitude, and the local micro-climate produces some of the season's most unpredictable conditions. The 1998 race had a 16-car pile-up at La Source; the 1985 race was delayed by ice. Wet-dry strategy calls at Spa make and break championships.
